What are the characteristics of UOE forming, row roller forming and spiral forming?

Commonly used large-diameter welded pipe production methods include UOE forming, row roll forming and spiral forming, and their characteristics are different.

Size range.

The production of row roll forming and spiral welded pipes is not limited by length. Theoretically, any length of welded pipes can be produced, generally 6-35M, most of which are more than 18M; while the length of steel pipes produced by UOE forming method is generally 12M, and the longest does not exceed 18M.

The row roll forming method is suitable for the production of thin-walled long pipes, 711-1016MM-0.08-25.4MM; UOE forming method is more difficult to produce thin walls, generally suitable for the production of 406-1625MM6.0-32MM, thick-walled steel pipes; the production range of spiral welded pipes is 89-24500.5-25.4MM.

Pre-welding.

The production of row roll forming and spiral welded pipes must be formed and welded at the same time, and the production is continuous, with good effect and high productivity. The speed is generally 1.8-12 /MIN. The forming and pre-welding of the UOE forming method are carried out separately. Submerged arc welding is generally used, with a low speed of 0.5-3.6M/MIN, so the productivity is low.

Production equipment.

The production of roll forming and spiral welded pipes, production preparation, spiral steel pipe factory forming and welding are carried out in the same unit, the equipment is light and the cost is low. The UOE forming method requires large and complex mechanical equipment, high investment and long manufacturing cycle. Moreover, the pipe diameter is limited by the plate width, and the adjustment is not flexible enough.

Weld quality.

The production of welded pipes by spiral welded pipes and roll forming methods can use weld tracking control equipment to prevent weld deviation, and production is continuous. The UOE forming method is carried out on several single machines, which can generally ensure the quality of the weld.

Tool wear and replacement.

In the production process of roll forming and spiral welded pipes, the tube is generally formed by roller forming, which is basically flow friction, with less tool wear, but the die roller is more complicated and time-consuming and labor-intensive to adjust.

UOE forming

UOE forming method is used to produce welded pipes. It is simple to operate and has high production efficiency. Its output is 4-6 times that of spiral welded pipes.
